摘要

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a relatively new technique in the field of cultural heritage since it has been first proposed in 1997.Based on the action of a pulsed laser which vaporises the material to analyse and induces plasma,it provides the atomic elementary composition of the sample,by spectrally analyzing the light coming from this plasma.As this technique is non-contact,rapid,and detects ail the atomic elements,on every kind of materials without preparation,it could be implemented in situ in a number of fields,and especially in the cultural heritage.Indeed,preliminarily to analyses of artworks for restoration and conservation purposes,it would enable to obtain instantaneous information about the materials used in the object and the nature of potential degradations products.Examples of application to painted object and polychromes are given in this paper:pigment analysis,alloy identification and depth profiling are few of the numerous issues to which LIBS can answer in the field of artworks,possibly in association with Raman spectroscopy.
