Once should have been enough for Wellingtonians Amanda Holland and Mike Brunei. Having just finished a major overhaul of their previous home, moving was not on their agenda. But then the couple spotted a tired old home in Mt Victoria that had lain empty for two years. It didn't seem an enticing prospect until they saw the astounding view sweeping across Wellington city and the harbour.Mike (a media company director) and Amanda (owner of interiors store Small Acorns) debated whether they should renovate all over again. "Mike was keen, I was not," says Amanda, "but it was the view that sustained me. It gave me faith that the ghastliness of the interior of the house would be redeemed in the end, so before I knew it we were moving in." She still recoils when recalling the decor - fake pillars, stencilling and heavy swags of curtaining installed during a period of 80s excess.
