It can be a daunting task turning a heritage-listed Victorian house into a modern family home without changing its character. But that was just the job Stuart and Dianne Duncan were looking for when they bought one of the character villas in DilworthTerrace in Auckland's Parnell. Having already owned and restored two houses in Parnell - one built in 1890 and the other in the 1860s - they were perfectly qualified for the task. Their last large old house in nearby Bradford Street, formed from 1860s barracks houses, had been home for twenty years but with both children, Damien and Olivia, grown up and living elsewhere they knew it was time to downsize.
