Mathematical models have been shown and proven to give a detailed analysis of the heat and mass transfer phenomena that arise during drying. Various numerical schemes have been employed in the past to solve the complex system of governing partial differential equations that describe the drying process. Only the control-volume, otherwise known as the finite-volume, numerical scheme offers the feature of conservation of mass and energy across each individual cell, in addition to the whole domain. This article presents a detailed comparison of cell-centered and vertex-centered numerical solution techniques applied to the drying of timber at high temperature. [References: 24]
