Unfazed by either the Fukushima catastrophe or Germany's pledge to shutter its nuclear power industry, Poland is forging ahead with plans to build two 3,000 MW plants, the first of which is scheduled to start in 2020. A key hurdle was over- come last month when lawmakers adopted the necessary leg- islation for nuclear power, so now the Polish utility entrusted with managing the newbuild, PGE EJ1, can proceed in earnest with tendering contracts. Although the country's cen- ter-right leadership remains steadfastly supportive of the pro- ject, only a slight majority of Poles appear to support the idea of "going nuclear."
