Having recently opted for early retirement (after more than 36 years coming up through theranks as an academic at the University Marine Biological Station Millport (UMBSM) asLecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor and Acting Director) and .thereby relinquishedmy status as the longest-serving member of permanent staff, it seemed appropriate to setdown my recollections of how the UMBSM came to be (not least to furnish a humandimension for the benefit of future historians of the subject).
