The article presents the results of research on the influence of grain size distribution and addition of leaning components on the plastic properties of blends composed on the basis of selected bituminous coals. Plasticity regulating additives were brown coal, anthracite and coke dust from the installation of dry coke quenching. The main part of the research was carried out based on the standard Gieseler Hoehne test, during which the fluidity of the plastic mass of a coal sample was examined and the characteristic temperatures of the plastic state were determined. The conducted research revealed that rational usage of the plastic properties of particular components of a coal blend requires individual approach towards the ussues concerning their grounding. The differences in tire milling ability of these coals cause that even the most plastic components may accumulate in the coarse. fine as well as in-between classes. The research also demonstrated that an effective way of correcting the plastic properties of a coking coal blend is the addition of leaning components such as: coke dust, anthracite or brown coal (used in the lesearch for comparative purposes). However, it has to be indicated that the leaning ability of coal blends with the use of these components is clearly diverse. Among the additives examined, the plastic properties of coal were most effectively regulated by coke dust and brown coal, whereas anthracite turned out to be "the mildest" leaning component.
