Biomass supply chain, stumpage issues in Lake States translate into higher prices, despite good inventories

Deficiencies in the supply infrastructure and trucking shortages impacted biomass markets through the first quarter in the Lake States, even though no one was scrambling for supply. Hungry pulp mills, OSB producers and sawmills kept suppliers preoccupied with higher-value demands through the period. As a result, biomass prices crept up with higher production costs and stumpage rates.
