Opposites attrct: Award-winning landscapedesigner Arne Clelancl is renowned for his cleverand creative use of native plants, but he's sprung a surprise in his own Southland garden
The most unlikely matches work well together, as in many a good marriage. But even so, it's a surprise to find such a great blend of native and exotics living i n harmony in Arne Cleland's Southland garden. Arne, who won the prize for the Best Use ofNative Plants at the 2006 LIANZ Landscape of the Year Awards, has an abiding fascination with native flora. He and wife Jenny spend many of their weekends tramping around Southland and, at Pukerau Nursery, he specialises in sourcing and propagating stalwart natives for southern climes. Given this, I assumed their garden might reflect this interest and exclude exotics.
