B've savoured some fine fruit in my time: perfumed Scottish raspberries, Swedish cloudberries, spiky Malaysian durian, pert Thai mangoes, wild Tuscan bilberries, luscious Cypriot figs. All wonderful, memorable things to be sure, but not one has ever come close to the exuberant, visceral joy of a perfectly ripe, sun-warmed heirloom peach, picked from one of my trees and scoffed gracelessly outdoors, with juice wetting face and fingers.
