Landscape designer Xanthe White can be excused for wondering when she's going to have time to fit in a good night's sleep over the coming months. As well as following through on a swag of garden design commissions and filming for the TV One show Ultimate Garden, the darling of last year's Ellerslie Flower show is full on coping with the demands of being this year's mastermind behind the show's crowd-pulling Grand Marquee (see below). Still, the young designer is the first to admit she thrives on operating outside her comfort zone. "I love challenging situations," she says. "I'm always trying something different with my designs. Over the past 10 years I've dabbled with a lot of different styles from cottagey, to formal and subtropical. I like to marry different influences in my designs to create a new feel. When I first started designing I worked my way through different styles and disciplines - you need to follow all the rules to be able to recognise boundaries and be confident about manipulating things successfully to create something different."
