Forestry an enabling technology

There was nothing much in the Budget for forestry folk... not unless they will be taking a few years off to become America's Cup yaclities, or some-such. However recommendations from the Biotechnology Task Force, set out in a report released to the Government eariy in May, are worth studying by those who reckon a buck car be made from trees and associated biotechnologies. The task force sets out "a bold vision for growth in New Zealand's nascent biotechnology community over the next 10 years". It foresees the number of companies with a core biotechnology focus increasing fivefold to more than 200 and a threefold increase in the number of biotechnology organisations to more than 1000. It also expec's biotechnology to employ more than 18,000 people by the end of that period.
