Generalized Chorea Associated With Nonketotic Hyperglycemia Cerebral MRI and SPECT Findings

Nonketotic hyperglycemia is a rare cause of chorea, and chorea is a rare finding of diabetes mellitus. Chorea associated with hyperglycemia is mostly described as unilateral, however, generalized chorea has been also described. Tl-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of patients with chorea associated with nonketotic hyperglycemia has been reported to show a high-signal intensity basal ganglia lesions. Single photon emission computed tomography studies have been reported to show hypoperfusion of the basal ganglia on the contralateral side to the body part affected by chorea, or hyperperfusion initially. In this report, we presented a patient with generalized chorea associated with nonketotic hyperglycemia without cerebral magnetic resonance imaging features, but with single photon emission computed tomography findings.
