Mintek developed a Robust Nonlinear Model Predictive Controller (RNMPC) for their advanced process control toolbox. Models were previously obtained by manually stepping the process, but this is time consuming and can be prone to errors with less experienced engineers. To address these challenges, the Automodeller tools were developed and demonstrated on an industrial site. The industrial demonstration showed that the Automodeller tools provided good models despite measurement noise, disturbances and even process disruptions and allowed more relationships to be modelled than was economically possible by hand. The Automodeller tools allow modelling campaigns to be done unattended and can be monitored remotely, saving the client costs.
