TO THE BLESSED MEMORY OF BOHDAN BLAZHKEVYCH

This year, August 28 was the 90th birthday of B. I. Blazhkevych and October 10 the 16th anniversary of his death. Bohdan Ivanovych Blazhkevych was a prominent Ukrainian scientist, one of the founders of the universally known Lviv Electrotechnical School. Blazhkevych was born in Subotov in Stanyslavshchyna (at present, Ivano-Frankivsk region) to a family of country teachers. After graduation from a Ternopil gymnasium, Blazhkevych entered the Electrotechnical Division of the Mechanical Department of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute. He graduated from the Institute in 1939 and worked as a lecturer of the Chair of Power Stations and Networks and then the Chair of Theoretical and General Electrical Technology headed by the well-known Professor O. O. Kharkevych. Here, in 1953, he defended his Candidate-Degree thesis. In the late forties and the early fifties, the known electrotechnical school was formed in Lviv. Among the most outstanding representatives of this school were Professors G. E. Pukhov, Yu. T. Velychko, L. A. Synyts'kyi, and S. I. Kyrpatovs'kyi. Blazhkevych occupied an honorary place among them.
