South African and Indian mills order Corex plants

Voest-Alpine has picked up two orders for its Corex C-2000 ironmaking facilities. The first order was a confirmation of an earlier option order from Jindal Vijayanagar of India, which currently is installing a C-2000 plant at Hospet in Karnataka State ("Freeing Indian Steel,"New Steel, June 1995). The second order is from Saldan-ha Steel Ltd. of South Africa, a green-field sheet mill 50-percent owned by Iscor Ltd. Iscor, based in Pretoria, built the world's first commercial Corex plant in the late 1980s. Industrial Development Corp., a government investment agency, owns the other 50 percent of Saldanha Steel.
