Upon becoming president and CEO in Sept. 2000, Dan DiMicco promised Nucor would become a major player on trade issues. For years, Nucor kept silent on trade and didn't file trade cases. Under DiMicco, Nucor has spoken out regularly against dumped steel and has become a party to trade cases. "We've had a positive impact in our role as one of the leaders on the trade issue," DiMicco says.DiMicco was named Plant Manager of the Year in 1999 as general manager and Nucor vice president at Nucor-Yamato. He became executive vice president later that same year before rising to the top job. He was elected vice chairman June 6, 2001.
