Service-center shipments fell slightly in February

The average daily shipping rate from U.S. steel service centers in February dropped by less than 1 percent from January, the Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI) says. Overall shipments totaled 105,100 tons per day, compared with 105,400 tons in January. Four of the seven product categories recorded increases in February, led by carbon plate at 8 percent. Stainless shipments rose by 6 percent, and carbon bars and alloys each grew by 4 percent. A 5-percent decrease in carbon flat-rolled offset the increases.
