NEW RESISTANCE TO PLANT VIRUSES IN PEPPER

Virus diseases of pepper (Capsicum spp.) can be a major limiting production factor. Resistance to these viruses is at present the best available control method. We have tested over 250 open-pollinated Capsicum spp for resistance to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), pepper mottle virus (PepMV), potato virus Y (PVY), and tobacco etch virus (TEV) and found several previously umeported resistant pepper lines or cultivars.
