High Strength Alloys By Magnetically Controlled Electroslag Melting

摘要

The potential for further improvements in traditional solid solution titanium alloys (alpha dispersed in a beta matrix) is low. A new class of multicomponent solid-solution alloys with dispersed intermetallics and/or a "rigid frame" of intermetallic particles of eutectoid former phases have been presented. It has also been reported that the technology of MEM melting of high-strength and elevated temperature titanium alloys has been developed, which is particularly applicable to the alloys containing intermetallic phase. High-strength titanium alloys produced using the MEM technology and intermetallic strengthening exhibit strengths up to UTS = 1600 MPa (T_(test)= 20 deg C). Similar elevated temperature titanium alloys again produced using the MEM technology exhibit attractive mechanical properties at temperatures up to as high as 700 - 800 deg C.
