Forest Oil Touts Transforming' Shale, Unconventional Portfolio

For a long time, Denver-based independent Forest Oil has remained among the rank-and-file independent producers known largely for a solid base of conventional producing properties, including numerous developments across Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and the Rockies, some of its core areas of operation. Yet the company's management unveiled what could turn into yet another hot new North American shale gas play last week—Canada's Utica Shale—located in the northernmost reaches of the Appalachian Basin, in an effort to shine a light on its growing portfolio of emerging unconventional resource plays.
