Texas Temblors Behind Proposed Wastewater Disposal Wells Rules

The Texas Railroad Commission has started accepting public comments on a proposed set of rules regarding wastewater storage wells, which were drafted following a series of earthquakes that have rattled residents near the town of Azle since late 2013. The commission, which said it will accept public comments until Sep. 29, is expected to vote on the rule changes before the end of the year. In January, commission members attended several town hall meetings after the area was shaken by a series of earthquakes — the US Geological Survey reported that from December 2013 to May the area was hit by as many as 300 earthquakes, though most were minor and went unnoticed.
