Already reeling from the crippling of its major backer in the US, cost overruns and delays in Europe and a failure to thrive in China, Areva's EPR reactor design took another hit last month when the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission delayed its certification. Meanwhile, Westinghouse's AP1000 design was chosen as the design for all four new reactors now being built in the US and is winning in China.
