The funeral dirges are playing ever more loudly on the bays and fjords along the Pacific shore of British Columbia as another major proposed LNG export project goes into hibernation, if not outright cancellation. Last week, Royal Dutch Shell and its partners in the LNG Canada export project said they were indefinitely delaying a final investment decision (FID) on the giant venture, casting doubt that it will ever move forward. "In the context of global industry challenges, including capital constraints, the LNG Canada joint venture participants have determined they need more time prior to taking an [FID]," said the partners about the project near Kitimat. "At this time, we cannot confirm when this decision will be made."
