Natural gas-fired power has been both a boon and a challenge in New England. While accounting for just 15% of generating capacity in 2000, gas share has risen dramatically in the region, reaching 49% of capacity in 2015, and 60% of all proposed new power plants in the region are gas-fired. But the ability to deliver gas supply during periods of peak winter demand has not kept pace.
