摘要

The US Department of Energy (DOE) kick-started a number of steps last week to prevent methane leaks throughout the natural gas supply chain, including plans for a new efficiency standard on natural gas compressor stations. The initiatives also include incentives for upgrading natural gas transmission infrastructure, preventing methane leaks on gas pipelines and the steering of more existing fed-eral research dollars toward leak prevention, detection and measurement. The steps are the fruits of a methane roundtable created by President Barack Obama last summer (NGW Jul.1'13). Energy Secretary Ernest Monk said the group has tried to find "workable solutions" to the problem of methane leakage, especially those that offer benefits to industry.
