摘要

Royal Dutch Shell's Quest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, has made a place for itself in the energy history books. The risk management company DNV has issued the world's first certificate of fitness for a carbon dioxide storage development plan to Shell's CCS project. The project is designed to capture and permanently store underground more than 1 million tons of C02 from Shell's Scotford Upgrader near Fort Saskatchewan. DNV has developed recommended guidelines and best practices for C02 geological storage selection and risk assessment and was commissioned by Shell to coordinate a review of the Quest project's underground storage formation, said DNV consultant Jorg Aarnes. The Quest Project will be the first CCS project to be implemented at an oil sands operation.
