Senate OKs Bill to Ban Drilling On 1.2 Million Acres in Wyoming

The US Senate passed two measures last week that could ban fixture oil and natural gas production in some resource-rich areas of Wyoming,if the legislation is approved by House lawmakers and signed by President-elect Barack Obama in coming weeks.The Wyoming Range Legacy Act,which would prevent new oil and gas leasing on 1.2 million acres of the Wyoming Range,was attached to a collection of 160 public lands bills that passed by a margin of 73-21.The package also included the Snake Headwaters Legacy Act,which would protect a 387-mile stretch of the Snake River Watershed in western Wyoming.
