A US senator is asking the White House to abandon a 1977 treaty with Cuba that set up economic boundaries that he says will allow oil and natural gas drilling projects that could endanger Florida's coastline. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Florida) made his feelings known this past week about Cuba's plan to develop the North Cuba Basin in a letter to the Bush administration. In his letter, he cited recent announcements that foreign companies could scon be drilling off the coast of Cuba.
