North Dakota Oil, Gas Output Sets Record

Operators in North Dakota pumped more than 1 million barrels per day of oil for the first time in April, the state's Department of Mineral Resources said last week. North Dakota also reported record production of associated natural gas during April, topping more than 1.1 billion cubic feet per day. Currently about one-third of the state's gas production is flared due to a lack of takeaway capacity. However, the state has recently enacted regulations to begin curbing the practice. Under the new policies, which were developed by the industry trade group North Dakota Petroleum Council, applications for drilling permits will not be approved unless they are accompanied by a plan to capture any produced natural gas (NGW Jun.16'14).
