Modular Manufacturing System for Rapid Production Setups

Mecon Industries Ltd., Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, has debuted its Flex System, a modular built-to-order manufacturing system designed to allow for rapid and cost-effective changes in production setups. The flexibility of the control system allows it to command a variety of tools and be configured in many ways. A typical system incorporates multiple punching and notching stations, a feed system and a shear. Components may include a coil car, uncoiler, straightener, punch tools, notch tools, servo roll feeder, shear, stamping press, brake press, panel bender and gag tooling. Punch-notch units can be mounted on slides to allow for positioning over the strip, and in pairs for punching on either side of the centerline. Punch positions can be adjusted manually or motorized and equipped with readouts to indicate offset from the machine centerline.
