One-off Gains Boost Novatek Profits

Top Russian gas independent Novatek saw net profits jump fivefold year-on-year in the first quarter of 2010 as higher revenues and a series of one-off gains boosted the bottom line. The producer posted net income of 11.182 billion rubles ($370 million) in the first three months of 2010 under international financial reporting standards, up from 2.134 billion rubles a year earlier (NC May21,p6).
