Steel scrap shipments in April

Steel scrap shipments from the àzov and Black Sea ports remain stable in April. Although Turkish steel manufacturers have boughtthe US and European scrap in volumes sufficient till the end of this week, they are still interested in CIS material. The cargo is beingshipped in small batches of 2,000-3,000 t from Poti, Rostov-on-Don and Nikolayev ports to the Sea of Marmora ant the Black Sea coastof Turkey. Freight rates in the Black Sea have stayed steady since mid-March, those in the Azov Sea have inched up by $0.5/t. It now costs$28-29/t to transport 3,000 t of scrap from Rostov-on-Don to the Marmara Sea ports. Shipping the same volume from Nikolayev is stillcharged $20.5/t; a 2,000-tonne shipment of scrap from Poti to Samsun port is priced at $21/t. The average quotations for a 3,000 t batchshipped on a route Constantsa – Nemrut Bay are $25/t.
