Back in the office after the long holiday, and just a few days after the historic vote by Congress to avert the fiscal cliff, it's disappointing to see how pessimistic the experts remain about prospects for the U.S. economy in 2013. Indeed, the progress that was made could easily be undermined if Republicans and Democrats lock horns again over the debt ceiling and federal spending cuts. Economist Mark Zandi of Moody's Analytics says Congress avoided the fumble, but missed the fiscal goal in its last-minute vote on New Year's Day.
