Evaluation of Maize Inbreds for Resistance to Turcicum Leaf Blight

Turcicum leaf blight Exserohilum turcicum (Pass.) Leonard and Suggs., Syn: Helminthosporium turcicum (Pass) is prevalent in all the major maize growing regions of Peninsular India during rainy (kharif) as well as winter (rabi) seasons, Himalayan region during the rainy seasons and Indo-gangetic plains particularly Bihar during the winter season (Lai, 1991). However this disease can be controlled exclusively by exploiting genetic resistance, as both polygenic and monogenic sources adapted to tropicalcountries are known in different maize growing regions of the world, especially in the United States of America (Brewbaker et al., 1989).
