Growth Indices, Yield and Economics of Rice as Influenced by Plant Spacing and Genotypes under Aerobic Method of Rice Cultivation

A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Unit, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore during kharif - 2006, to study the performance of rice genotypes like Karnataka Rice Hybrid-2 (KRH-2), MTU-1001, Thanu, Marker Assisted Sclection-26 (MAS-26) and MAS-946 at different spacings (viz., 20 x 10 cm, 25 x 25 cm and 45 x 20 cm). The results revealed that the spacing 45 x 20 cm was significantly superior over 25 x 25 cm spacing and 20 x 10 cm, with respect to growth indices like NAR (0.00198 g/cm~2 /day) at 60-90 DAS, RGR (0.0803 g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of dry matter production (1.760 g/day). Among the genotypes KRH-2 hybrid recorded higher NAR (0.00192 g/cm~2/day) at 60-90 DAS, RGR (0.0844 g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of drymatter production (57.53 g/day) and among the varities MTU-1001, recorded higher NAR (0.00176 g/cm~2/day) at 60-90 DAS, RGR (0.0700 g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of dry matter production (1.462 g/day), which was on par with Thanu which recorded NAR of(0.00166 g/cm~2/day) at 60-90 DAS, RGR (0.0699 g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of dry matter production (1.493 g/day). Compared to MAS-26, NAR (0.0.00154 g/cnr/day), RGR (0.0737 g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of dry matter production (1.307 g / day) and MAS-946 NAR (0.00151 g/cm~2/day), RGR (0.0.0776g/g/day) at 30-60 DAS and rate of dry matter production (1.327 g/day).
