A field experiment was conducted at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Babbur Farm, Hiriyur, Karnataka of Central Dry Zone of Karnataka to study castor based intercropping systems under rainfed condition during 2008. The seed yield of castor in solecropping (1434 kg ha~(-1)) was significantly higher than yield obtained in intercropping systems except paired row systems of castor intercropped with clusterbean and groundnut. The higher castor equivalent yield (2380 kg ha~(-1)) was obtained in pairedrow systems of castor intercropped with clusterbean in 2:4 row proportion closely followed by castor intercropped with clusterbean in 1:3 row proportion. Land equivalent ratio was highest (1.71) with castor + clusterbean in 2:4 row proportion intercropping system as compared to other intercropping and sole cropping treatments. Among intercropping systems, castor + clusterbean (2:4) recorded higher net return (Rs. 37938 ha~(-1)) and B:C ratio (3.36) followed by castor + clusterbean (1:3) and castor + groundnut (2:4) intercropping systems.
