Extent of Adoption of Sustainable Cultivation Practices with Respect to Ratoon Management by Sugarcane Growers

The research study was conducted in Belgaum and Bagalkot districts of Karnataka during 2005-2006, with the sample size of 180 respondents. The expost-facto research design was used for the study. Cent per cent of respondents had adopted gap filling operations, followed by stubble shaving operations (52.97%), incorporation of leaf trashes to ratoon field (45.23%), shoulder breaking operations (25.59%). Partial adoption was noticed in more than two third per cent of respondents regarding use of FYM andapplication of fertilizers. Education, farming experience, risk orientation, attitude towards sustanaible cultfvation practices, management orientation and extension contact of respondents had positive and significant relationship with their adoption ofratoon management practices. Multiple regression analysis indicated that, the seventeen independent variables put together had contributed to 45.28 per cent (R~2 = 0.4528) variation in extent of adoption of SCPs with respect to ratoon management practices.
