Effect of Integrated Nutrient Management on Grain Yield and Economics of RainfedMaize in Alfisols

A field study was carried out at Dry Land Agriculture Project, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India, on "Integrated nutrient management of rainfed maize in alfisols during kharif (rainy season) 2008-09. the result revealed that application of recommended NPK through fertilizers (100: 50: 25 kg ha~(-1)N, P_20_5 and K_20) recorded significantly higher grain (4374 kg ha~(-1)) and stover (6.68 t ha~(-1)) yields with a harvest index of 0.4, it was followed by application of 50 per cent Nthrough fertilizer + 50 per cent N through poultry manure + balance P and K as fertilizers recorded 3996 kgs of gram and 6.46 tonnes of stover yield per hectare. These treatments recorded significantly higher net returns (Rs. 29.562 ha~(-1) and Rs. 27,288 ha~(-1)) than rest of the treatments but higher benefit cost ratio (2.75) was recorded with the application of 50% N through fertilizer + 50 per cent N through poultry manure + balance P and K as fertilizers, however, it was on par with recommended NPKthrough fertilizers (2.70).
