A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Kathalagere, Davanagere district (Karnataka) during kharif 2007 and 2008. The experimental site has red sandy loam soil with neutral in pH (6.8), medium in organic matter (0.65) and available potassium (233.9 kg K_2O ha~(-1)) but low in available phosphorus (17.2 kg ha~(-1))- Nine treatments comprising of different nutrient management practices were laid out in RCBD and replicated thrice. Among the different nutrient supply 150 kg Nthrough vermin-compost (80 kg N) + neem cake (50 kg N) + 20 kg N through Azospirullum along with 10 kg PSB per ha recorded significantly higher plant height (235 cm), total dry matter production (105.2 g. plant~(-1)) and leaf area (2631 cm~2 plant~(-1))at harvest as compared to other treatments. The millable stalk yield with supply of 150 kg N through vermi-compost, neem cake and Azospirullum and PSB 10 kg.ha~(-1) (30.8 t. ha~(-1)) was on par with recommended package (29.7 t. ha~(-1)) and normal sowingwith recommended package (29.4 t. ha~(-1)) and were significantly superior over other treatments. The brix, pol and ethanol yield showed similar trend. The nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium uptake were significantly higher (121.2,26.88 and 75.11 kg NPK ha~(-1), respectively) with substitution of 150 kg N through different organic sources as compared to other treatments.
