Study was conducted durign kharif 1999 on farmers field to study the influence on line seeding and broadcasting of seeds treated with water, 1 per cent KCl solution and 1 per cent CaCl_2 solution. A local Punaji variety Byrnellu was tried along withRasi an improved variety. The results revealed that drill sown Byrnellu was significantly superior in grain yield (57.5 q ha~(-1)) and other components when seeds were treated with one per cent CaCl_2 solution. Besides, plant height, dry matter production, grain number and 1000-grain weight were all superior treatment. Byrnellu recovered from the stress experienced due to rainless period of 45 days from sowing.
