The first randomized, placebo-controlled trial of B vitamin therapy for the prevention of major vascular events in patients with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) has been unable to show any benefit from such treatment. "The take-home message was that B vitamins were safe but they were not significantly more effective than placebo," says Graeme Hankey of Royal Perth Hospital, Australia, who codesigned and codirected the trial.
