Movement disorders: why movement and cognition belong together.

In the first, classic description of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), the authors cite-alongside vertical gaze palsy and nuchal dystonia-dementia as one of the key clinical features of the disease. Subsequently, numerous studies have confirmed the presence of cognitive dysfunction, often reaching the level of dementia, in a substantial number of patients with PSP. Frontal executive dysfunction has been identified as the central component of the cognitive profile in PSP2 and, albeit less pronounced, in multiple system atrophy (MSA).
