摘要

The plant-pathogenic anamorph Currently known as Asperisporium sequoiae (Ell. & Everh.) Sutton & Hodges, which was originally classified in Cercospora Fries and occurs commonly as the causal organism of needle blight of Leyland Cypress [Cupressocyparis leylandii (Dallim & A.B. Jackson) Dallim] in Alabama, is considered to be more satisfactorily classified in Cercosporidium Earle and is, accordingly, transferred to that genus. It is also redescribed and illustrated. The distinctiveness and validity of the Cercosporidium generic concept is reevaluated and its status as an individual entity is upheld. The morphological discontinuities between it and Passalora Fries are considered to be sufficiently adequate to warrant separate recognition. Its circumscription is based upon a number of readily recognizable characteristics which make it easily distinguishable from related genera.
