Five years ago, when my accountant announced that she was going to file my taxes electronically, I had visions of hackers snapping up my Social Security number as it made its way through cyberspace en route to the Internal Revenue Service. That she gave me no choice— and that, lo and behold, I actually received my refund within 10 days, identity intact—made me a believer. Today, I not only do my taxes completely online, but I pay many of my regular monthly bills that way too.
