California fan palm, also known as desert fan palm (Washingtonia filifera (Linden ex Andre) H.-Wendl. [Arecaceae]) is a ubiquitous species within the highly restricted and unique desert oases ecosystems of the Sonoran, Mojave, and extreme southeasternColorado desert regions. Today, many of the desert oases are threatened by groundwater removal. Fresh seeds can be sown without treatment, and seeds collected from coyote scat have also germinated well.
