Recordson1251rabbitsproducedintheperiodfrom2003to2006fatheredby48siresandmotheredby114damsofSinaiGabaliwereusedtoevaluatebodyweightatweaning(BW4),8(BW8)and12weeks(BW12)aswellasdailygainduringtheperiodsfrom4-8(DG4-8)and8-12(DG8-12)weeksofage.Datawereanalyzedusingamulti-traitanimalmodeltoestimateadditive(heritability),commonlittereffectsandresidualvariances.Modelincludedthefixedeffects(sex,parity,littersizebornalive)andrandomeffects(additivegeneticandcommonlitter)inadditiontorandomerror.nbsp;Estimatesofheritabilitywere0.05,0.38and0.20forBW4,BW8andBW12,respectively,whiletheseestimateswere0.23and0.19forDG4-8andDG8-12,respectively.Theestimateofcommonlittereffectsforbodyweightatweaningwashigher(77)comparedtothatatlaterages(36at8weeksand47at12weeks).Estimatesofdirectgeneticcorrelationrangedfrom0.08to0.89amongbodyweighttraits,while,theestimatesofcommonlittercorrelationswerelowamongthesametraits(rangedfrom#8211;0.1to0.02).Mostestimatesofenvironmentalcorrelationswerepositiveandhigherthanthoseofadditivegeneticandcommonenvironmentalcorrelations.nbsp;Inpractice,itissafelytogiveanattentionforSinaiGabalibreedtosavetheseanimalsfromextinctionsincetheseanimalshavegreatgeneticdiversityforpost-weaninggrowth.
