Most of the industrial processes are multi-input multi-output (MIMO) type and are dominated by interactions. In order to reduce the interactions off-diagonal closedloop transfer functions are derived and interaction reducers (IR) are designed (as process decouplers) for closed-loop controL A liquid level - temperature process is interfaced with computer for which openloop transfer function is found and then multiloop PI controllers are tuned using different tuning rules to study closed-loop performances of the system with these decouplers. Decoupling controllers take interaction into account and thereby undesirable responses due to interactive transfer functions are made negligible. Real time closedloop results show performance of control systems.
