What is the clinical significance of ipsilateral renal lesions during nephron-sparing surgery?

Disease recurrence in patients with localized renal cell carcinoma (RCC) who undergo nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) is low, and is usually attributed to undetected tumor foci. Few data are available on the prevalence of malignancy in these satellite renal lesions, or the intraoperative approach that should be taken when ipsilateral lesions are present.To evaluate the prevalence of malignancy in satellite renal lesions, and their clinical significance in patients who undergo elective NSS.
