Mexican Reefs Get a Checkup

For 625 miles, the second-largest coral reef system in the world stretches along the coastlines of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. The Meso-American Reef (ABOVE) teems with life, from the 66 species of coral that form its spine to the reef fish, crustaceans and other sea life that find shelter and sustenance within it. Off MEXICO'S QUINTANA ROO COAST, The Nature Conservancy is taking an ambitious two-pronged approach to identify and conserve areas of the reef that will become part of a network of marine protected areas.
